First of all, we would like to wish everyone a wonderful 2011. Though 2010 has been an incredible year, we can’t wait for what 2011 has in store. With that said, let’s get to the updates!
December was a busy month for us. In addition to spending Christmas with our family and friends, we also celebrated our birthdays. Coincidentally, we share the same birth date AND birth year…and this year was a big one for us! Of course we didn’t spend the whole month celebrating; much of it was spent keeping things moving along smoothly with our production. And if that wasn’t enough to keep us busy, we spent the rest of our time digging ourselves out of record levels of snow. Is it April yet?
Dials
The dial samples are in and we couldn’t be more pleased with how they turned out. The only tweak we’re making to the dials is adding a little more depth to the sunray effect. It is really exciting to see the dials in the flesh. Below are the pictures for each model.
Watch Boxes
Great news, the watch boxes just arrived today and look even more amazing in person. As mentioned in our earlier post, they are bifolding leather carrying cases with slots for two watches, perfect for travel and storage. The design of the black embossing and black stitching was intended to be subtle and clean to fit the overall theme of our watches. As you’ll see in the pictures, the Holystone and Six Pounder both have their own case.
With the finish line in sight we will continue updating this page as we get more pieces to share with everyone. Please let us know if you have any questions along the way!

We wanted to take the opportunity to give you an update on our progress.
Prototype
We are hoping to have a prototype back to us very shortly. Once we receive it, we will of course share photos…we can’t wait! We also did confirm the 5-link bracelet will be able to fit wrists size 6″-9″.
Watch Cases
We have finalized what we hope will be more than just another watch box that you stuff in your sock drawer. Production for the boxes started yesterday!
Not only will it be great looking, but it’ll actually be something that you can use! The design is bi-folding leather with compartments for a watch on both sides (or a watch on one side and an extra strap or two on the other) that zips closed to prevent accidental openings. The box will be model specific calling out “Holystone” or “Six Pounder”. It will be perfect for both travel and storage. We have attached photos for reference.

Delivery
We recently found out that the Miyota 9015 movements that we pre-ordered long ago will not be available until March. We are extremely disappointed by this news as it pushes back our delivery to April. As this delay was unforeseen and out of our control we wanted to thank you for your patience. We also try to look for the positive in every situation and believe this will give us a little extra time to ensure that the watches are absolutely flawless! We will continue to provide updates as we hear more from Miyota.
Thank you for your continued interest and support. Stay tuned!

It has been far too long since our last entry…so, what’s new? Well, we have exciting news!
We spent a lot of time fine tuning some of the details in both the Holystone and Six Pounder and were so excited about the results that we had to build a
new page here on our site to share more of the images. Since we finalized the design, a couple more writeups have surfaced (that we know of anyway)…we thought we’d share the links here:
The finalized design also means that we are one giant step closer to a finished product. Over the next few weeks, we hope to be able to share some early prototype shots of the case/bezel…we can’t wait!
Thanks to everyone who has helped us out along the way; we have been overwhelmed by all of the support and encouragement!

As promised, here are a few pictures of the LUM-TEC lume in action!
8 layers of this lume will be applied to both the Holystone and the Six Pounder to ensure it will glow extremely bright for a long time!

Here are a couple of 3D renderings showcasing the design and unique style of our models. You can find more images like this on our Facebook page @ http://www.facebook.com/pages/RedSea-Watches/101286633252347?v=photos&ref=ts
Custom Design: To make these watches truly unique and one of a kind we felt going custom with no off the shelf parts is where to start. This includes the bezel, the case, the dial, the caseback, the hands, and the crown. We are very excited how it is coming together and hope you are as well!
UPDATE ON THE CROWN: We realize that the crown looks abnormally small compared to the rest of the watch (and we have heard that feedback as well
). We can assure you this issue will be fixed and the crown will be much larger, so the watch will be asthetically pleasing as well as easier to use.

Choosing a name that captures what you are trying to accomplish as a business is definitely more of an art than a science. We wanted something original, but not obscure…something that had depth, but was still simple.
So why RedSea? For us, nothing told the story of who we are and what we’re trying to do better than RedSea. We are strong Christians that draw inspiration from both faith and interests. No doubt Red Sea has numerous biblical references, but it also has an interesting history around pirates and is an amazing dive location. Also, we have an intense passion for watches; both functionally and as a form of personal expression.
Because our first project is building a watch that blends the old school world of pirates and ocean exploration/diving, the Red Sea became a very clear common ground.
So what’s in a name? For us, RedSea captured it all!

Ever since we can remember, we were both fascinated by watches. From our first Mickey Mouse and Garfield watches as kids, to the ultra “cool” calculator watch, to our first chronograph, to our college graduation watch, to our first business professional watch, to our first real (automatic) watch, etc. It has since grown into an intense passion for design and high quality automatic movements.
The idea all started one day at work while we were swapping stories about watches when Troy posed an aspirational question, “Have you ever thought about starting your own watch company?” Josh answered with a hopeful “Are you serious? Because even if you’re only half serious, I’m all in!” That’s it…a year later, we’re writing about it and you’re seeing our dream unfold.
